In commemoration of Fire Prevention Month, the Divine Word College of San Jose Senior High Red Cross Youth Club (DWCSJ SHS-RCYC) organized a comprehensive fire drill at the Fr. McSherry Gymnasium, DWCSJ last March 26, 2024.

The event, held in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) San Jose, aimed to enhance the preparedness of the Basic Education Department (BED) students in case of emergencies.

The fire drill provided invaluable insights into fire safety protocols, equipping students with essential knowledge on fire behavior, extinguisher usage, and victim transfer techniques. The presence of BFP officers, notably Fire Inspector Rogelio O. Cabalse Jr. and his team, ensured the event's success and educational value.

Key highlights of the drill included an introduction by BFP SFO1 Norly G. Santos, insights on fire behavior by FO1 Elora Divina T. Mesina, demonstrations on fire extinguisher usage by FO1 Celine S. Mosquera and training on victim transfer techniques led by FO2 Kiervin M. Artates, FO1 Marvin V. Bernardo, and FO1 Jake C. Samar.

Students from DWCSJ STEM-12 and HUMSS-11, particularly those enrolled in Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction (DRRR) subjects, actively participated in the said drill. The engagement also included class officers and representatives from various school organizations.

Khen Kurllo A. Magbanua, President of the SHS-RCYC, expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for their dedication and support. The success was also attributed to the efforts of Ms. Imarie O. Dablo, the moderator, academic coordinators Mrs. Annabel G. Arconada, Mrs. Pinky N. Pagayonan, Mrs. Imelda V. Rodriguez, and Dr. Jason S. Valera, the BED Principal.

Through proactive initiatives like this fire drill, the Divine Word College of San Jose underscores its commitment to fostering a safe and prepared educational environment for its students.
